Moon - Darkroom Print
This is a darkroom print in 8in x 10in size.
About:
The rocks around the ocean always fascinate me. I love their patterns and colours and textures. I love the way that you can often find shades of pinks and oranges and interesting strokes and mottled patterns. The rocks on coastal rock platforms are carved by a dialogue between the wind and sea. As the wind sprays the ocean against the rock it carves and whittles holes and lines. It’s like a kind of memoir. It also means that these rocks are part of a continuously evolving story. The rocks in this image are out there still being carved. I think the texture in this image makes it look like the moon. Or, it could be a landscape captured from space but it is really an extreme closeup.
Silver Gelatin:
This image was made by hand by me in the darkroom. Silver gelatin is the term given to the light sensitive coating on darkroom paper and this is why darkroom prints are called silver gelatin prints. They are unique, one of a kind, original objects subject to the imperfections of the handmade process. Even if the image itself is reprinted, no copy can ever be exactly replicated. They are artefacts and are made with love, attention and heart.

Moon in detail.
8x10 inch images make beautiful complimentary pieces.
Darkroom prints often have details along their borders showing the handmade nature of their process, the edge of the paper against the easel. This is one feature that makes these prints beautiful objects.
